The Detroit Lions have enjoyed a productive start to the 2026 season, with Jared Goff leading an offense capable of overwhelming opponents. Through five games, Goff has thrown for 1,485 yards and 12 touchdowns without an interception, establishing himself as one of the league's most efficient quarterbacks. His performances have helped Detroit remain competitive despite an inconsistent start.
However, Goff knows his success isn't simply down to his own ability or the weapons surrounding him. The Lions boast an impressive collection of playmakers, including Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Jahmyr Gibbs. Yet Goff believes another group deserves much of the credit for making the offense click.
Asked about his performances and the offense's success, Goff highlighted the importance of Detroit's offensive line. He stressed that even the most talented skill players need protection and blocking to produce consistently.
"We have a really good skill group here, but they know, and we know, as an offense and a team, we only go as they go. So when they're playing well, we can do some pretty special things."
Goff's comments underline how essential the offensive line has been to Detroit's success. The unit has continued to develop its chemistry, giving him time to find receivers while creating opportunities for the running game. With the line performing well, the Lions can attack defenses in multiple ways.
Lions' Penei Sewell Move Continues to Pay Off
One major storyline has been Penei Sewell's transition from right tackle to left tackle. Head coach Dan Campbell recently praised the All-Pro lineman, saying the switch had been outstanding and that Sewell appeared to have found another gear.
Sewell's versatility has helped Detroit maintain stability despite changes across the offensive line. Alongside developing young linemen, his performances have strengthened the unit that Goff credits for so much of the offense's success.
If the line continues to perform at this level, Detroit's explosive offense will remain difficult for opponents to contain.
