The Detroit Lions have signed a new cornerback, Roger McCreary, for the 2026 NFL season.

Interestingly, he already has had an impact on Jared Goff from a 2024 game, which was not less than a nightmare for his former team, the Tennessee Titans.

In Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season, the Titans and Lions faced off at Ford Field. And the Lions handed the Titans a humiliating, 52-14 defeat. McCreary, who was a part of that game, was asked about what he learned from that game. He said:

"I would say start off with the quarterback, Jared. I mean, he was the guy. He kept the offense going, much respect for him. He had guys, playmakers, everybody around him, the defense. I would say that was a lot. They had 10 dozen. so many ways."

All of the Lions players were great that day. Jahmyr Gibbs had a 70-yard TD run and 127 rushing yards. Kalif Raymond scored via a 90-yard punt return. Lions dominated all phases and led 35–14 at halftime. But like McCreary said,

"I know it started with him just being the leader he is and watching how it was a little little thuggy at first, little there, but as the game got on, it was over with. And I know it was because of him and his drive and his leadership."

Jared Goff was incredible in that game. He had a passer rating of 129.9 with 85 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Lions QB attempted 15 passes and completed 12 of them. And all of this despite the Titans' defense sacking him 4 times.

But almost two years after that humiliation, Roger McCreary is eager to play by Goff's side.

Further talking about that game, the Lions CB expressed his desire to play for the Lions.

"So, seeing that and going against them, you could just experience and see what type of play style they had. So that's why I'm just excited just to practice with them and just be their teammate," McCreary said.

After the Titans released him, the Lions signed him on a 1-year contract. Though the amount is not disclosed yet. In the 2025 season, McCreary played 345 total defensive snaps, including 106 run-defense snaps, 15 pass-rush snaps, and 224 coverage snaps.
