Jared Goff Gets Shocking Message From IShowSpeed's Dad at World Cup

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (16) warms up before the Dallas Cowboys game at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025.

As the Detroit Lions gear up for minicamp before heading to training camp in July, quarterback Jared Goff found himself in an unexpected spotlight after receiving an earful from IShowSpeed’s father at SoFi Stadium during the FIFA Club World Cup.

During the June 12 USA vs. Paraguay match in Inglewood, IShowSpeed was on a FaceTime call with his father at halftime. He asked whether Jared Goff was in attendance, prompting Speed to go on a hunt to find the Lions quarterback, who was behind him at that time. Once Speed located Goff, he handed the phone to his father, who issued a friendly warning to the QB:

"You'd better win the championship this year."

Goff's answer to Speed's father, Darren Watkins Sr., was short and confident:

"I got you."

That response from Goff does hold some truth. The Lions are among the favorites to win the NFC and are considered one of the league's top contenders, alongside Philadelphia and Baltimore. According to an analysis by Mike Clay for ESPN, the Lions do have a serious chance to top the NFC North division.

“The Lions will go from last to first in the NFC North … in dominant fashion. Defensive injuries have derailed Detroit in recent seasons, but this roster — when healthy — is terrific on both sides of the ball. Add in one of the league’s easiest schedules, and the Lions are primed for a Super Bowl push,” wrote Clay.

With Drew Petzing replacing Ben Johnson, Jared Goff enters the 2026 season under a new defense coordinator. Critics have argued whether Petzing’s methods will be able to bring Goff back to his 2024 form or not.

That said, another individual has also issued a warning to the team.

NFL Insider Raises Concerns Over Jared Goff's Age

Despite winning back-to-back division titles, Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon believes that the Lions’ Super Bowl window might close real fast if they suffer another late-season meltdown in 2026.

“Jared Goff turns 32 this year, and the Lions have had no playoff success the last two seasons,” Gagnon wrote. “Another failure could mark the end of the run, while a successful rebound could keep the window open into Goff’s mid-30s.”

The Lions' had a disappointing 2025 season, in which they missed the playoffs entirely (finished 9-8, 4th in the NFC North) despite entering the year as Super Bowl favorites and having won the division the previous two seasons.

Despite turning 32 in October 2026, Goff remains one of the most reliable and productive QBs in the NFL. Coming off another strong 2025 season (4,564 passing yards, 34 touchdowns, just 8 interceptions, and a 105.5 passer rating), he continues to post elite efficiency numbers that many younger QBs would envy.

However, Gagnon’s point is fair. The clock is ticking louder at this stage of a quarterback’s career. But history shows that pocket passers with Goff’s style can remain highly effective well into their mid-to-late 30s. Think Drew Brees, Matt Ryan in his prime years, or even Kirk Cousins.

Goff has no major injury history that would suggest an early decline, and he just received a contract restructure that keeps him in Detroit through at least 2027.

What are your thoughts about the Lions' performance this season?
