The Detroit Lions' latest roster decision could leave star quarterback Jared Goff uneasy this season.
According to the Detroit Times, this is how the franchise plans on using its first-round pick.
"The Lions are reportedly 'equally high' on filling their EDGE position compared to their OT position in Round 1 of the NFL Draft, per
@nfldraftscout," the Detroit Times reported Friday.
Jared Goff was sacked 38 times in the 2025 NFL season, making that a career high for him. If there is one statistic that QBs do not want to break their career-high in, it would be the number of sacks.
The Lions have nine picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, including the 17th and 50th overall picks.
After enjoying the 2023 and 2024 seasons, for the Lions, it felt like one step forward and two steps backwards in 2025 when they missed the playoffs. The team finished 9-8 for the second time with Goff under center.
Not to mention, the Lions released Taylor Decker, Graham Glasgow, and Frank Ragnow (retired). That was the core that set up the successes Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes enjoyed in 2023 and 2024. In the 2024 season, Detroit topped the NFC with a 15-2 record but eventually lost the Divisional round to the Commanders.
On the Lions depth chart, at left tackle, there are Larry Borom and Devin Cochran, and at right tackle, lineman Penei Sewell and Mason Miller. Other than Penei Sewell, that offensive lineman depth room screams inexperience.

What Does the Pass Rush Unit Look Like for Dan Campbell and the Lions?
The Lions have already focused on the pass rush unit since the beginning of free agency. Star defender Aidan Hutchinson, a former Michigan Wolverine and Michigan native, leads the unit.
The second overall pick only missed time in the 2024 season due to an injury in the left leg. In the 2025 season, Hutchinson played all 17 games. He finished the season with a career high 54 total tackles (36 solo), 14.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and one interception.
Campbell and company have added the necessary cover for Hutchinson by adding D.J. Wonnum and Payton Turner, signing them both in free agency.
The Lions have only one first-round pick, and Goff would hope he gets much-needed protection at the line of scrimmage before he can throw the football.
