Jared Goff is silencing critics who believe elite mobility is a requirement for Super Bowl success. NFL analysts now compare the Detroit Lions quarterback to Tom Brady for his surgical efficiency inside the pocket.

While appearing on the DetroitSportsPodcast, Marc Ryan, the host of 97.1 The Ticket, spoke in favor of quarterback Jared Goff, saying he is good enough to win a Super Bowl for the Detroit Lions. 

“Nick Foles to Trent Dilfer to the other immobile types like Joe Flacco. Oh, you gotta be mobile. How mobile was Tom Brady? That wasn't a different era. That was now. Now, admittedly, that was Tom Brady,” said Ryan.

The comparison to Tom Brady was less about play style and more about perception.

Ryan’s argument centered around the idea that elite mobility is no longer a requirement to win at the highest level if a quarterback can consistently make the right reads and operate efficiently inside structure. That’s where he believes Jared Goff fits.

Goff, the former first-overall pick, has become a consistent producer for Detroit. He joined the Lions in 2021.

“Things don't have to be perfect around him,” said Ryan. He added that things were far from perfect last year, and he played some of his most efficient football.

Last season, the Lions ended their season with 9 wins and 8 losses and missed the playoffs. However, Goff maintained his production. He appeared in all 17 games and threw for 4,564 yards and secured 34 touchdowns. 

Now entering another season under head coach Dan Campbell, the conversation is no longer about whether Goff can produce. It’s whether he can finally take Detroit to a Super Bowl.

Analysts Assess Jared Goff's Chances of Leading Lions to Super Bowl

The belief around starter Jared Goff goes beyond statistics. According to NBC Sports' Chris Simms, it’s about the way he controls an offense under pressure and delivers the required consistency. 

“Along with being the toughest pocket passer, also one of the most aggressive, fearless decision-makers there is in the NFL,” Chris Simms said while evaluating Jared Goff’s game.

Another notable analyst, Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, ranked Goff as the fourth quarterback who is under the most pressure to win the Super Bowl.

Kerr said, "There's a lot of pressure for Goff to exercise his playoff demons and get Detroit to the Super Bowl, especially for a franchise that has never been to the Super Bowl."

With head coach Dan Campbell still backing his quarterback and the roster largely intact around him, the pressure now shifts toward turning offensive consistency into postseason success.
