Jared Goff Did Not Consider Patrick Mahomes An All-Time Great

Lions quarterback Jared Goff excluded Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes from his top ten all-time list of quarterbacks. Goff prioritized long-term legacy over the current dominance of the Chiefs' superstar.
As reported by USA Today, the Detroit Lions quarterback notably left Mahomes outside his top tier of all-time great quarterbacks, per the social media clip of Netflix Sports posted in July, 2025.
The social media clip was an advertisement for the second season of Netflix’s docu-series “Quarterback,” which featured Jared Goff as the underdog-to-legend. Though the clip isn't part of the show.

- Drew Brees (Primary Career Teams: San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints)
- Philip Rivers (Primary Career Teams: Los Angeles Chargers, Indianapolis Colts)
- Eli Manning (Primary Career Team: New York Giants)
- Ben Roethlisberger (Primary Career Team: Pittsburgh Steelers)
- Brett Favre (Primary Career Teams: Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings)
- Aaron Rodgers (Primary Career Team: Green Bay Packers; currently with Pittsburgh Steelers)
Surprisingly, in the list, only Aaron Rodgers was the active quarterback, and the rest were the retired legendary QBs that the league has produced.
According to Jack McKessy of USA Today, a closer look at Goff’s picks suggests he was valuing long-term legacy more than present-day dominance. Other than Aaron Rodgers, his list mainly featured retired all-time greats, which likely explains why current stars like Mahomes were left out.
Notably, Goff’s list includes five of the 11 players who have won multiple MVP awards in their careers. Namely Brady, Peyton Manning, Montana, Favre, and Rodgers.
Back in 2025, the docu-series was a success, and now all eyes are on season 3, set to premiere on July 14, 2026.
Jared Goff Left Out of Netflix’s Quarterback Season 3 Cast
Although Jared Goff won’t be returning for the renewed season of the Quarterbacks, he was shown as an unshakable leader who has been the production machine for the Lions.
Season two also explored Detroit's offensive evolution under coordinator Ben Johnson.
But this time the series will feature Joe Flacco of the Cincinnati Bengals, Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders, Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Cameron Ward of the Tennessee Titans.
Netflix confirmed on May 13, 2026, that the series will be produced by NFL Films, Omaha Productions, and 2 PM Productions, and is set to premiere on July 14.
