The Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff paid his respects to David Montgomery after the shocking revelation of his trade to the Houston Texans. 

Before the 11 March deadline, the Detroit Lions have decided to part ways with David Montgomery. In exchange, the Lions received two draft picks (a fourth-round pick in 2026 and a seventh-round pick in 2027) and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs from the Texans. 

The “Sonic and Knuckles” is officially over now, and quarterback Jared Goff was the first one to talk about it. On the emotional post shared by David via Instagram, to which “The greatest”, Jared said.

In the Instagram post, David Montgomery said,

"It's hard to find the right words for a goodbye like this. Detroit has never just been a location to me — it's been a community," he began. "And you all have been more than supporters or a team. You've been steady hands, loud cheers, honest feedback, and quiet strength when I needed it most."

28-year-old David joined the Detroit Lions in 2023 after completing four seasons with the Chicago Bears. He played three seasons with the Lions, covering 2,506 yards and securing 33 touchdowns.

He loved his time with the Lions, “Please know this: Everything I do next carries a piece of Detroit with it,” he said.

Reacting to the news, Gibbs posted an image of “Sonic and Knuckles” with a broken heart emoji via Instagram. The post shows his respect for David, calling him “knuckles” for his strength and himself “sonic” for his speed. 

Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, on his podcast, St. Brown Podcast, shared his feelings about David.

“Selfishly I’m sick because I love Demo. One of my favorite teammates. No matter the situation, he never made it about himself. He was always all about the team.”

David Montgomery is starting on a new journey with his work ethic.

"The edge. The heart. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for pushing me. Thank you for walking this chapter with me. I'm beyond grateful — and I'll always be proud to say I was shaped by this city and by you,” he concluded.
