As the Motor City team prepares for their redemption path to correct the mistakes of the 2025 NFL season, which cost them the playoffs with a record of 9-8, their core quarterback-pass catcher combo receives predictions that are not in their favor.

As reported by Michael Colwander of the Side Lion Report about the "Instant Debate" article, a few NFL pundits from NFL.com believe that the renowned QB-WR combo Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St Brown does not make the cut to be the league’s best duo. 

In the article, the NFL experts Dan Parr, Jeremy Bergman, Matt Okada, and Brooke Cersosimo were asked to name their choice for the best QB-WR pair, and for them, Goff and Amon-Ra was not the one. 

For Parr, it was the Cincinnati Bengals' Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, Bergman chose the Los Angeles Rams' Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua, Okada selected the New England Patriots' Drake Maye and A.J. Brown, and Cersosimo went with the Houston Texans' C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins. 

But what went wrong with the Lions’ star duo?

Both Lions’ stars joined the Motown team in 2021, and it took the Week 12 match of the season where the duo first connected and scored a TD.

Per Pro Football Reference, St. Brown has the Lions WR section by 547 receptions. Since 2021, the duo has scored 44 touchdowns (second most) right behind Burrow-Chase’s 48 TDs.

Not just this, they own the highest receiving yards rankings by 6,252 yards. 

Even when the Lions narrowly missed the playoffs, they kept their production intact and remained in the top-tier performance for the Detroit Lions. 

They may be right about their judgment at the personal level, but when it comes to statistics, Goff and St Brown have won games for the Lions.

Ahead of the regular NFL season, GM Brad Holmes has to fix quarterback depth of the Lions, as there is still no proven depth option to fill in Goff’s position. 

Not everyone is pleased by the presence of QB2 Teddy Bridgewater and QB3 Luke Altmyer. Per ESPN Cleveland's Tom Rizzo, the Browns are receiving potential trade calls for the blockbuster trade of Shedeur Sanders.

"There are talks, ongoing calls about the availability of Shedeur Sanders,” Rizzo said... "I’m going to say right now, for the record, I don’t think the four quarterbacks are going to camp on July 28."

Per Rizzo, the Motor City team would be one of the expected teams, as the Lions have worked out a long-term solution for their QB2 problem. 

Shedeur Sanders' addition to the Lions’ QB depth would allow them to increase the competition at ‌QB depth, which will result in the better development of the QB2s.

Per Pro Football reference the Colorado product appeared in seven games for the Cleveland Browns in 2025 NFL season. In these games, he threw for 1,400 yards and scored seven TDs. 

Also, his presence there would not impart extra pressure on him to be a starter, under Goff, he will get adequate time for his development. 

Ahead of the 2026 NFL, the Detroit Lions would not leave any stone unturned to make it back to the playoffs.
