When one Detroit athlete made history, Jahmyr Gibbs turned up in support. Gibbs sent a message of support as Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham made the All-NBA team.

The Lions running back shared a reel that was initially posted by the Pistons, which featured highlights from Cunningham’s season. Captioned, “If you’re surprised, then you must not be watching,” the post celebrated Cunningham becoming the first player to be named to the First Team since Grant Hill did so during the 1996-97 season.

Cunningham, the 1st overall pick in the 2021 draft, is coming off his best-ever year. Averaging 23.9 points, 9.9 assists, and 5.5 rebounds, he helped Detroit reach the playoffs.

Cunningham has reignited excitement around Detroit basketball after decades of mediocrity and bad seasons. And that's one of the reasons why Gibbs has publicly supported the NBA guard, even going as far as wearing his jersey back in October.

A few months later, Gibbs also turned up to watch Cunningham and the Pistons take on the Knicks.

Both athletes have become cornerstones of Detroit, and as one receives first-team honors with the NBA, the other prepares for another season.

Gibbs Poised For A Massive Season in 2026

Already viewed as one of the NFL’s most explosive offensive players, expectations are high for Jahmyr Gibbs and the Lions. Gibbs was among the league leaders in rushing production and was still an elite dual-threat weapon during the 2025 season.

Gibbs was named in the Pro Bowl after recording 1,223 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, with an average of 5 yards per carry.

He also had 5 receiving touchdowns with 616 yards from 77 receptions.
