The Detroit Lions are preparing to begin their new season against the New Orleans Saints. On paper, Detroit appears to have a significantly stronger roster, with expectations once again sky-high around the team.

However, Jahmyr Gibbs isn't interested in looking past anyone. The Lions running back knows both teams are entering the season with something to prove after missing the playoffs last year.

“We're not gonna take anybody lightly, no matter what record they had. I mean, sh**, we didn't make the playoffs either, so they're probably looking at it the same way.”

That's a mature approach from one of Detroit's biggest stars. Gibbs understands the Saints will be motivated to make their own statement, regardless of the talent gap between the two teams.

The Lions cannot afford to underestimate anyone. If Gibbs and his teammates want to start their campaign on the right foot, they will need to bring the same intensity they would against any contender.

The Lions have a unique plan to back up Jahmyr Gibbs

Gibbs is expected to handle a major workload this season. However, Detroit has already revealed a unique plan for keeping him fresh throughout the campaign.

Dan Campbell intends to use Jacob Saylors and Sione Vaki as a committee behind Gibbs. Both players will receive opportunities as runners, pass protectors, and receivers whenever Gibbs needs a breather.

The pair also provide value on special teams. That makes them useful contributors even when Gibbs is handling the bulk of the offensive workload.

It's an interesting approach from Campbell. If Saylors and Vaki can provide reliable support, Gibbs could remain fresh when the Lions need him most.
