The Detroit Lions secured an impressive 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, handing their NFC North rivals their first loss of the season. While Detroit's defense played a crucial role, Jahmyr Gibbs was arguably the biggest difference-maker offensively.
The running back finished with 153 rushing yards on 23 carries, averaging 6.7 yards per attempt. He also scored a spectacular 30-yard touchdown, giving Detroit the lead in the third quarter. Gibbs added two receptions for 15 yards, finishing with 168 yards from scrimmage. Detroit Lions+1
However, Gibbs couldn't have delivered that performance alone. Detroit's offensive line, receivers, and quarterback all contributed to the ground game's success.
One particularly unexpected contribution came from Jared Goff. The quarterback wasn't just directing the offense or handing the football to Gibbs. He was also getting involved in the blocking game, helping his running back gain additional yards.
Gibbs revealed one such moment after the victory, giving Goff plenty of credit for an underrated part of his game.
"I didn't know this, but, you know, Jared, he came, I broke one tackle and Jared came and, you know, pushed Harry for me, so yeah, shout out to him, best lead blocker in the league."
Gibbs clearly appreciated the quarterback's willingness to get involved in the dirty work. However, Goff's contribution to Detroit's victory extended well beyond his blocking efforts.
Jared Goff Delivers When Lions Need Him Most Against Vikings
Goff completed 18 of 25 passes for 176 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. His biggest moment came late in the fourth quarter, when he connected with Jameson Williams for the seven-yard go-ahead touchdown. Detroit Lions+1
The quarterback also extended his remarkable streak to 29 consecutive games with a passing touchdown. While his passing numbers weren't spectacular, Goff made the crucial plays when Detroit needed them most.
Combined with Gibbs' outstanding performance, his contributions helped the Lions secure an important divisional victory.
