The Detroit Lions have built one of the NFL's most thrilling offenses, with Jahmyr Gibbs being the centerpiece. After Dan Campbell appreciated the running back, Gibbs' workload has gotten heavier.

After Thursday's OTA practices, the Pro Bowl running back talked about the contract extension. With Detroit preparing to make Gibbs the featured back of the offense, his comments gave an insight into how he views both opportunities.

“It’s not nothing I’m not used to,” Gibbs said via Detroit Free Press. “Growing up, I’ve always been the person that’s always had the most carries and stuff like that. I’m not looking at it any different than any other year.”

Dan Campbell mentioned him as a "bell cow" and Gibbs is embracing the workload instead of seeing it as a challenge. He pointed to his history, noting that he has been accustomed to carrying the offensive burden.

Since his collegiate career, Gibbs has served as the focal point of the team's attack. He earned second-team All-American honors and first-team All-ACC honors at three different positions (all-purpose, return specialist, and running back).

Gibbs' rushing production, receiving ability, and knack for scoring touchdowns have made him a centerpiece of Detroit's offense, recording 3,580 rushing yards, 39 touchdowns, and about 5 yards-per-carry average through his first three seasons.

"I'm worried about the team. I'm just tryna hoop right now," he said, speaking of the contract extension. "I let my agent and Brad (Holmes) do all that, or whoever does it up there, I don't know. But I just let him do that, and I just be out here."

With the Lions already exercising the fifth-year option, Gibbs appears comfortable letting the business side play out while concentrating on performance as his fifth-year rookie option sees him be at the franchise through 2027.

As the Lions enter another season with Super Bowl goals, Gibbs is expected to play a bigger role.

Campbell noted that the former first-round pick is capable of thriving in any offensive scheme.

"He can run every scheme that anybody's ever run," Campbell said. "He can create his own space in the middle, and some of his biggest runs have been gap scheme, right down the pipe, where he's had patience and found it, and guys blocked it up well."

Gibbs is destined for a huge year, and this belief goes beyond the team's headquarters. Campbell highlighted Gibbs' ability to create yardage between the tackles, praising his vision, patience, and decision-making.

Even though the Lions had a disappointing season last year despite a 9-8 winning record, Gibbs recorded 243 carries, 1,223 yards, and 13 rushing touchdowns.

According to Campbell, most impressive runs have come during interior gap plays, highlighting the Lions' trust in him with a larger offensive role.
