Jack Campbell is officially staying in Detroit. Upon signing his first contract extension, he immediately set his sights on bringing a Lombardi Trophy to the Motor City.

As reported by Brad Galli, the Lions' star Jack Campbell has signed his rookie contract extension with the Lions ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

“What's up, One Pride Nation, Jack Campbell here. I just wanna let you guys know, I signed my extension,” Campbell said. “I'm excited to be back. I'm excited to be here long term. Now it's time to go win a Super Bowl. Go Lions.”

The Motor City team selected the 25-year-old linebacker from the 2023 NFL Draft out of Iowa on a four-year rookie contract at $14.7M, per Spotrac.

According to his contract, the Cedar Falls native was due for his contract extension and was set to be released as a free agent in 2027.

The contract comes after the Detroit Lions declined the speculations about his fifth-year option for the 2027 season on his rookie contract last month.

That deal would have given him a worth of $21.925 million, making him the NFL's highest-paid off-ball linebacker.

But now the Iowa product has a new long-term deal in hand for another four years and is set to be released in the free agency in 2031.

Although the terms of the contract have not been made public yet, but Campbell is primarily the cornerstone and defensive play-caller of their front seven.

Per Pro Football Reference, Campbell appeared in all 17 games throughout his career with the Lions and earned first-team AP All-Pro honors in addition to his first Pro Bowl selection.

Emerging as Lions' most consistent defender in 2025, he recorded 176 total tackles and five sacks, while defending four passes.

Now with his extension in hand, he is ready to contribute his part in restoring the Lions' path to the Super Bowl.

Jack Campbell and Lions Given Favorable Super Bowl Path, Analyst Claims

Jack Campbell’s contract extension comes at a time when analysts are considering that the NFL has given the Detroit Lions a clear path to the Super Bowl.

Analyst Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports has argued that the Lions are being favoured by the NFL officials while setting up their matches. 

"Lions schedule. Again, big brand in the NFL. Yet deep down, I think they want the Bills and the Lions in the Super Bowl,” he said. “I think, they wouldn't get it. Because it's like the two teams in America, it'd be impossible not to root for.”

Per the Lions' schedule revealed on May 14, 2026, their opponents have a .467 win percentage based on the data of 2025. 

The Lions have four primetime games, a match against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, and their first international game in Munich, Germany. 

Later in the season, several of their opponents will be with the new head coaches, which potentially gives them an edge as those teams settle in, per Cowherd.

GM Brad Holmes has retained his star linebacker Campbell to undo their mistakes, by which they missed the 2025 NFL playoffs with a 9-8 record.
