For athletes, a return to their college campus is a chance to relive memories that shaped their careers. But for the Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, that feeling doesn't always apply.
During his appearance on the St. Brown Podcast, Jeremiyah Love discussed going back to Notre Dame. St. Brown attended the University of Southern California, but doesn't like visiting his former campus often.
"It's trash," St. Brown said.
What St. Brown meant was that he only cares to visit for football games; outside of game days, he rarely goes back.
He has consistently shown pride in his Trojan roots. He speaks about the program and has publicly supported the school during major transitions, including the Uni's move to the Big Ten Conference.
Before becoming one of the NFL's elite receivers, St. Brown played at USC from 2018 through 2020. During his collegiate career, he earned All-Pac-12 honors before entering the NFL Draft.
In October 2023, Amon-Ra lost a challenge to his Detroit Lions teammate and former Irish player, Julian Okwara, which forced him to wear a full Notre Dame Leprechaun costume.
Now a multiple-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro with the Lions, St. Brown continues to balance his NFL success with his college football. He turned out to be one of the league's best receivers and one of the success stories from the Trojan program in recent years.
However, the podcast took a turn when Love called out USC.
Jeremiyah Love Takes Fresh Shot at USC as Notre Dame Rivalry Debate Heats Up
Jeremiyah Love is keeping the Fighting Irish-Trojans rivalry alive even after leaving college football behind. During the podcast, he couldn't hold it back and suggested that the Trojans failed to match Notre Dame's level.
"Ain't gonna lie to you, bro. USC, they don't wanna play ball no more. Them boys don't be coming to compete," said Love on the St. Browns Podcast. "When they play at Notre Dame, they don't play ball."
Equanimeous St. Brown played for Notre Dame (2015-2017), and Amon-Ra played for USC (2018 -2020). Love pointed to Notre Dame's recent success in the rivalry, noting that USC struggled against the Irish on the ground.
However, Love's blunt statement adds another memorable chapter in college football rivalries. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
