Stephen A. Smith had a blunt reaction to the Detroit Lions’ defensive struggles after their loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Speaking on ESPN's First Take, Smith pointed to the scale of the problem through two games. Detroit had allowed 71 points, 10 touchdowns, 63 first downs, and 915 yards at the end of Week 2.
Smith then put Detroit’s defensive struggles into stark perspective:
“But let’s put it in its proper perspective. In their first two games, they have given up 71 points, 10 touchdowns, 63 first downs, and 915 yards. And we’re not through week two of the season. I mean, damn! That’s very bad. That’s very bad. So we’ve just got to say y’all got to get it together now.”
Smith also acknowledged Buffalo’s offensive quality. However, he stressed that Detroit must address its defensive issues quickly after another difficult outing.
Detroit Lions struggle against Buffalo Bills in Week 2
The Detroit Lions struggled throughout their Week 2 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Josh Allen, Buffalo’s star quarterback, accounted for five touchdowns as the Bills built an early lead. Jared Goff threw four touchdown passes for Detroit, but the Lions could not keep pace.
The result left Detroit with a 1-1 record and plenty of questions surrounding its defense heading into Week 3.
