I Don't Really Pay Attention: Jahmyr Gibbs Makes Blunt Admission on Contract Talks With Lions

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs's current contract keeps him at Detroit till 2027. However, knowing his ability, it does seem the Lions would be keen on retaining him. As of now, General Manager Brad Holmes is overseeing the Gibbs situation and talking to his agents.

Gibbs recently addressed his contract situation to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

"I'm just letting my agent and Brad and all of them do all that right now," said Gibbs. "I'm just worried about the team and the ball. I don't know. I don't really pay attention to all that stuff. I let my agent and Brad do all that, or whoever does it up there. I don't know. But I just let him do that, and I just be out here."

As of now, Gibbs' contract with the Lions is secure through at least the 2027 season. The Lions officially exercised his fifth‑year option in April 2026, locking him in for 2027 at a guaranteed salary of about $14.29 million. This would allow Detroit to negotiate a long-term extension with him.

Gibbs 2025 numbers with 1,223 rushing yards and 13 rushing TDs show great promise from the 24-year-old.

Surely, Holmes is more than inclined to have him after that performance. However, it's not just the GM who is looking to keep him.

Dan Campbell Looks To Build His Team Around Jahmyr Gibbs

With a packed offense, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is now looking to build the roster around his star RB.

Campbell recently admitted it candidly to the press as the team engaged in OTA at Allen Park.

"Gibbs is going to be our bell cow," said Campbell. "He became more of that last year. We’re going to hang our hat on him quite a bit."

Gibbs abilities are giving the entire Detroit management hope. He made 181 receptions (10 receiving touchdowns) with 39 rushing touchdowns in his first 49 games over three seasons.

Gibbs can run every scheme and is versatile. Campbell values his ability to exploit space as well.

Campbell admits that he's "going to ask a lot" of Gibbs, but when there is a quality player in the mix, the demands are justified.

Campbell also has players like Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St Brown on his team and does not want to make any mistakes.
