Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch (32) speaks to media members during training camp at Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park on Monday, July 28, 2025.
Brian Branch returned to Lions practice after a lengthy absence following a torn Achilles. The return gave the safety a chance to reflect on his recovery and mindset.
Speaking to reporters, Branch credited Dan Campbell and the rest of the Lions coaching staff for helping him through the process. He noted that he stayed patient, kept working, and showed up early each morning:
“But you know I told Dan, like, 'I'm starving.' Since I got injured — it’s been day by day. Just been working, just been grinding. Showing up at 7 a.m. Fish, Coach Schuler, like, everybody just had their part in with me, and I just want to thank all of them for that.”
Branch also feels more confident this time than he did during his previous comeback. His return from toe surgery two years ago came with more uncertainty. However, the current recovery has left him feeling ready to get back on the field:
“I don’t know what transpired or what’s been going on with me, but like I ain’t in my head and I’m ready to go.”
The Lions star's long road back began with a torn Achilles last season
Brian Branch suffered a torn Achilles last season, beginning a long rehabilitation process that kept him away from the field for months. The Lions placed him on the PUP list at the start of the season.
Now back at practice, Branch is focused on regaining his rhythm. He said the rust is already coming off and that he feels good:
“Sure, I’m getting the rust off now, and in practice, I feel good.”
His return gives the Lions another step toward getting their defensive playmaker back on the field.
