“He’s Still Crushing It” - Lions Edge Rusher Backs Jared Goff Strongly After Week 3

Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson backed Jared Goff after Detroit’s Week 3 win over the New York Jets.

Hutchinson discussed Goff’s profile while speaking to reporters and explained how the quarterback position had changed in recent years. He noted that Goff’s build once represented the traditional mold, but said the 31-year-old continues to excel.

Hutchinson also highlighted Goff’s pocket movement. He referenced a spin move from Week 3 before delivering his endorsement of the Lions quarterback:

“He’s a walking testimony of it [how the quarterback position has changed]. Jared’s build used to be more the standard obviously, but he’s still crushing it. [..] Jared can also, he can glide around the pocket a little bit. We saw a little spin move Sunday. So don’t sleep on him too much. I think he's getting it done, man, so definitely props to him”

The comments show Hutchinson’s belief that Goff’s build does not define his effectiveness as a passer for Detroit throughout the season.

Jared Goff’s numbers tell the story through three games

In the first three games of the season, Jared Goff has 802 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and no interceptions. He has completed 77 of 109 attempts, producing a 70.6% completion rate and a 116.1 passer rating.

In Week 1, Goff threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns against New Orleans. He then posted 327 yards and four touchdowns against Buffalo. He added 269 yards and two touchdowns in Detroit’s Week 3 win over the Jets.

Through three weeks, those numbers provide the clearest evidence behind Aidan Hutchinson’s assessment of Goff’s continued effectiveness
