Great News for Lions fans as Packers predicted to break 21-year-old streak

Over the last two decades, the Green Bay Packers have seen quite a bit of success in the NFC North. However, that could finally be coming to an end. And for the Lions' fans, this could be a boon,

The Lions finished at the bottom of the NFC North last season despite high expectations. However, for Lions fans, another major disappointment of the season was the Lions getting swept by the Packers with two losses. Now, according to a new prediction, the Packers' record of not finishing last in their division for 21 years could end this season.

“Without Parsons to mask coverage issues in the secondary, the Packers could be off to a slow start this year,” wrote Moe Moton of Bleacher Report. “If the Minnesota Vikings offense looks sharp with quarterback Kyler Murray, Green Bay could be in an uphill climb to stay out of the NFC basement.”

Micah Parsons is expected to only return by October as he is recovering from an ACL injury that he suffered against the Denver Broncos on December 14 2025.

Moton, in his Bleacher Report article, also mentioned how the legal proceedings of running back Josh Jacobs is also a problem for the Packers. He expressed doubt over the running back room if Jacobs were to miss time, as the backups, MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks, have a combined 88 career carries.

“Depending on Jacob’s status, the Packers may have to rely heavily on their passing attack, a departure from head coach Matt LaFleur’s past offenses,” added Moton. “Green Bay ranked in the bottom six in passing attempts for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.”

The Lions are trying to improve on a disappointing 2025 season after they finished last in the division and missed the playoffs. With the Packers expected to finish at the bottom of the division, the Lions have an even better chance of being back in the playoffs and contending for the Super Bowl.

While the Lions had faced the Packers in the first game of last season, it appears to be different this time. While the fixture details for both games have not been revealed, the details of their first matchup are already out, as per Sidelion Report.

After facing each other in a tight 31-24 game for Thanksgiving last season, they will now be facing each other at the same venue next time around. Their next matchup is going to be at Ford Field during Week 7 of the 2026 season.

Meanwhile, the Lions will only face the Packers again at the end of the regular season during Week 18. With that fixture going to be held in Lambeau Field, the Lions will be hoping to get revenge on their last performance at the venue. The last time the Lions played at Lambeau Field, they ended up losing 27-13 during the Week 1 opener of the 2025 season.
