Aaron Glenn spent four seasons as the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator, working alongside Dan Campbell after the two had previously coached together in New Orleans.
Their time together gave Campbell a close look at Glenn’s coaching and leadership ability. Speaking to reporters in Allen Park ahead of the Lions’ Week 3 matchup, Campbell discussed his relationship with Glenn.
Meanwhile, sports journalist Brad Galli took to X/Twitter to share some of Campbell's comments. He highlighted the fact that the Lions head coach never second-guessed Glenn’s abilities, even during difficult stretches in Detroit.
“When things go well, that's one thing. When things get a little rocky, that’s where you really find out what your conviction in something is and in someone, and solving issues, confidence in themselves, the ability to teach, the response of the players [..] AG is a great example of that,” Campbell said
Campbell’s comments reflect the strong relationship he built with Glenn during their time together in Detroit. The two head coaches now prepare to face each other when the Lions take on the New York Jets at home.
Aaron Glenn earned Dan Campbell’s trust through his coaching ability
Aaron Glenn’s time in Detroit gave Dan Campbell plenty of evidence to support that belief.
Campbell highlighted the Jets' head coach's ability to handle adversity, solve problems and teach his players. He believes those qualities were among the reasons Glenn earned his trust during their time together in Detroit:
“AG checked all those boxes, and you’ve got to look through all the other stuff and really look at the substance behind it.”
Campbell’s assessment shows how Glenn’s approach helped strengthen their relationship. The two will soon meet on opposite sidelines when the Lions face the Jets in Week 3.
