After the Los Angeles Rams pulled off a blockbuster trade for pass rusher Myles Garrett, the NFL world was stunned. One of the most notable reactions came from Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
Campbell reacted to the Rams' trading for Garrett, a move that has led many analysts to label Los Angeles as the Super Bowl favorite.
The trade strengthens the Rams' defense, and Campbell's response dripped with sarcasm, dismissing the blockbuster as a guaranteed championship.
"Good for them, I mean, they've won it now, right? I honestly had none," said Campbell to reporters at the press conference on Thursday. "He's a hell of a player versus hell of a player. They're two totally different players."
He appreciated both Garrett and former Rams defender Jared Verse, stating that the two bring different skills to the field.
However, Campbell remains focused on his own team rather than reacting to rival acquisitions. Many fans have bemoaned Detroit's aversion to making similarly aggressive trades. When asked whether his team would turn a page and aim for such moves, Campbell's response was curt.
“Well, I guess I would tell you when that time happens,” Campbell said.
The Rams brought in Garrett and sent Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick, the other way. A multiple-time All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year winner, Garrett has joined a franchise known for making aggressive win-now moves under GM Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay.
For Detroit, Campbell prefers to focus on improvement and let results speak for themselves. He recently opened up about the 2026 Lions offense, where running back Jahmyr Gibbs will play an important role.
"He's Going To Be Our Bell Cow Now," Says Dan Campbell Regarding Jahmyr Gibbs
Dan Campbell revealed that Gibbs, who was a starter last season, will be the centerpiece of the offense in 2026.
"He’s going to be our bell cow now," Campbell told reporters on Thursday. "He really became more of that last year, but we’re going to hang our hat on him quite a bit. We’re going to do a lot of things we feel like he does well."
Speaking on OTA practices, Campbell shared that Gibbs is now expected to serve as the team's "bell cow" running back following David Montgomery's departure.
Last year, Gibbs was productive, recording 1,223 rushing yards, 77 receptions, and 18 total touchdowns while earning his third consecutive Pro Bowl selection.
His role expanded throughout 2025, and Campbell believes he is ready to handle a larger role.
If Gibbs steps up to the plate, he could become one of the league's leading Offensive Player of the Year candidates in 2026.
