After missing the playoffs in the 2025 NFL season with a 9-8 record, the Minnesota Vikings are grinding in the OTAs with the newly signed quarterback Kyler Murray.
But as the clips from the OTAs surfaced on the internet, it has left the fans questioning the GM Nolan Teasley’s choice of signing Kyler Murray as a starter QB option.
The Vikings are holding a competition between their primary QB, JJ McCarthy, and the newly signed QB Kyler Murray from the Arizona Cardinals to find a potential primary starter for their 2026 NFL campaign.
The Minnesota Vikings signed Murray on March 12, 2026, as a proven depth option against McCarthy after his 2025 performance.
Unlike the Detroit Lions’ QB Jared Goff, the Vikings' starter, McCarthy, was not a production machine despite not making it to the playoffs.
Per Pro Football Focus, McCarthy only played in 10 matches while covering 1,632 yards with 11 touchdowns.
He was intercepted 12 times in 243 attempts!
His poor performance and unavailability due to multiple injuries led the Vikings front office to sign Murray to restore their chances of making the playoffs in 2026.
Unlike McCarthy, Murray comes with a proven experience of seven seasons, he has played over 87 matches for the Cardinals with 20,460 yards covered and 121 TDs.
But with his OTAs clips surfacing on social media, this has left the Vikings’ fans rattled about what the has the Vikings' front office has about the primary QB.
Amid the OTAs, Murray has taken heavy backlash over his not-so-sharp throws in the field.
Fans Waste No Time Mocking Kyler Murray During QB Discussion
The discussion quickly shifted toward Kyler Murray’s OTA performance as the clip of him surfaced on social media, and it quickly had Minnesota Vikings fans mocking Murray over the throw.
One fan dismissed Murray entirely, writing, “lol. The Kyler fraud is now being perpetrated on the Vikes. Get back to us at the end of the season, Dov.” The comment reflected the skepticism some fans still have about Murray despite his experience and production in the league.
Others compared him directly to the Vikings’ quarterback situation.
While one fan sarcastically mocked the Vikings roster by saying, “Vikings offense is going to be amazing this year,” an Arizona Cardinals fan slid in the comment section and questioned Murray’s consistency on behalf of Vikings fans, “I would consider who’s throw more INT first since I’m a Cardinals fan, I know what you're getting from Kyler, just saying.”
The criticism became even more pointed when fans brought up Murray’s performances outside of OTA settings. “Kyler Murray’s problem is when the pads come on… he’s an extremely accurate QB on air,” one fan joked, suggesting that practice performances do not always translate to game day.
Another fan challenged the criticism itself, asking, “You watched Kyler throw?” as he believed watching Murray throw is itself a waste of time.
The reactions showed a familiar divide around Murray, with some fans questioning his value in the Vikings roster. The fans were clear about who their choice for QB 1 would be.
