After months of uncertainty, the Detroit Lions player is finally seeing some relief. Following shoulder surgery, the veteran now eyes a return to the field.

As reported by Dave Brikett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions' cornerback Terrion Arnold is all set for his comeback to the gridiron after coming out of a season-ending shoulder injury and a concussion. 

“Before I got hurt, I was getting in my groove, figuring things out,” Arnold said. “Started playing my best ball and then just dealing with that injury, nagging it, so I’m just excited to see where I’ll be at without having any injuries…”

Arnold was a first-round pick in 2024 and signed a four-year, $14 million contract. He suffered a severe shoulder injury while playing against the Cleveland Browns in the fourth week of September 2025. 

His condition aggravated the next week while playing against the Cincinnati Bengals, as a result of which, he missed two games.

Upon his return, during a game against the Washington Commanders in November, he suffered a concussion, though the Lions won.

The $14M Lions’ star's condition aggravated further while playing against the Green Bay Packers in a Thanksgiving match, which forced him to undergo a season-ending surgery. 

In the last season, he appeared in eight games while recording 23 solo tackles, per Pro Football Reference. 

“As far as OTAs and stuff, I don’t know about that,” said Arnold. “That’s kind of up to them… But as far as training camp and stuff, I know I’m expected to be there.”

Arnold is still unsure about his presence in the OTAs, but he expects to be ready for the start of training camp in July.

As Arnold works his way back, his recent remarks about Abney add another layer to his return narrative.

Terrion Arnold Opens Up on Abney’s Draft

According to the Side Lion Report, the draft of cornerback Keith Abney II was one of the most intriguing ones for the Lions. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, No. 157 overall.

“He’s a playmaker,” Arnold said. “…He’s a smart kid, a very instinctual football player. I think he’s going to come in and make a lot of big plays, make the room better.”

He praised the 21-year-old young cornerback from the Arizona State Sun Devils.

"Some of the things that coaches were saying, they just kind of raved about his football IQ,” Arnold said. “And obviously with him playing nickel or him playing the slot.”

The Lions will be using Abney at slot cornerback, where he’ll compete with CB Roger McCreary, Christian Izien, and others.

Abney recorded six interceptions while playing as an outside cornerback over the past three seasons at Arizona State.  

The Lions' rookies will join veterans in Phase 2 training ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
