Former Lions' OL Signs With Jaguars Months After Being Cut

The Detroit Lions are in full swing with their OTAs after they revamped their offensive line this offseason. But the team did not continue with veteran offensive lineman Trystan Colon.
The 28-year-old has landed another NFL opportunity, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of training camp, according to MLive.
Colon signed a one-year, $1.215 million contract with the Jaguars after spending over three months without a team. His lone season with Detroit was cut short due to a broken wrist. The Lions later placed him on injured reserve.

Following his recovery, the Lions opted not to re-sign him, allowing him to leave as a free agent.
The veteran lineman appeared in 12 games and made four starts for the Lions last season. He logged 77 snaps at center and 96 at left guard when Christian Mahogany was on injured reserve.
Then 10 between right guard and tackle. He also added 66 snaps on special teams, giving Detroit flexibility after two seasons in Arizona and three in Baltimore.
His departure came with the retirement of All-Pro center Frank Ragnow and the exit of veteran guard Kevin Zeitler.
With Detroit adding several new faces across the offensive line, it became difficult for Colon to get a role. The roster overhaul has paved the way for his departure.
Detroit's Offensive Line Overhaul Left Little Room for Colon
During the offseason, the team acquired former second-round pick Juice Scruggs in the David Montgomery trade with the Houston Texans. They signed center Cade Mays and veteran guard Ben Bartch, and added tackles Larry Borom and first-round pick Blake Miller.
The Houston Texans selected Scruggs with the 62nd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. They also brought in Mays, who is entering his fifth NFL season. The Panthers selected him in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Bartch was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Borom was drafted in the 5th round (151st overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.
Lastly, Miller, who has already signed his rookie contract. He was selected in the first round (17th overall) of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.
While Colon spent only one season in Detroit, he proved his ability by playing at multiple positions whenever called upon.
In 2020, he entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, but with his versatility, he steadily built his career. Across seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals, and Lions, Colon has appeared in 63 games and made 19 starts.
After waiting for months for his next chance, Colon is back on an NFL roster and will compete for a spot in Jacksonville's plans for 2026.
