Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have been two of the best running backs in the Detroit Lions' arsenal.

They recently became the first NFL teammates to each score in eight games during one season, but the former Pro Bowler isn’t ready to call them the best.

The Detroit Lions' wide receiver, Amon-Ra St. Brown, invited Terron Armstead to the St.Brown Podcast on Sunday. His brother, former Saints receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, was also on the podcast.

St. Brown put Armstead on the spot, asking him which pair was better: Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram, or Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery?

Well, having played with the 'thunder and lightning pair,' Armstead's choice was rather obvious.

"I'm going Mark and Alvin all day. All day. I’m going, Mark and Alvin. I saw it, I was in it, I lived it. It's different... that 'Thunder and Lightning,' it was just different," he said.

Gibbs and Montgomery's pair was one of the main reasons for the Detroit Lions' offensive success last season. While Gibbs was clearly the explosive playmaker, Demo provided a constant threat, especially in short-yardage and red-zone situations.

Together, they rushed for almost 2000 rushing yards and scored 21 touchdowns for the Detroit Lions. What's more impressive is that these two scored all of the team's rushing touchdowns.

Despite their heroics, Armstead went with Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara's duo, which wreaked havoc for the New Orleans Saints. In 2017, Ingram provided the "Thunder" with 1,124 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, while Kamara brought the "Lightning" with over 800 yards both rushing and receiving and 5 touchdowns.

According to Armstead, they are not on the same level because Ingram and Kamara were more versatile, able to switch roles seamlessly. with their natural rhythm, unselfish chemistry, and the energy they brought to the entire team.

While Armstead might not put them above Kamara and Ingram, the Lions fans know how important Gibbs and Montgomery are.

The bond between Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery has become a major part of the Detroit Lions.

, proving that a shared vision can turn two individual stars into a powerful duo. In December 2025, when they had a splendid performance, Montgomery shared his thoughts about Gibbs.

"Watching Jah (Gibbs) in the open field is like watching a video game. He’s the most special talent I’ve ever been around. My job is to soften the defense up so he can fly. There is zero ego here—if he’s rolling, I’m his biggest cheerleader."

Showing his support for Montgomery, Gibbs also expressed his emotions in January 2026 during an interview.

"I wouldn't be the player I am without Dave. He taught me how to embrace the 'dirty work.' When I see him running through defenders (as 'Knuckles'), it fires me up to go out there and make a play. We don't care who gets the stats as long as we get the win."
