Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is facing multiple felony charges related to an incident that occurred in Florida earlier this year. To avoid a life sentence, the cornerback has now hired an attorney who has represented several pro athletes over the years.

According to a report by Sports Illustrated writer John Maakaron, Arnold has now retained the services of prominent Colorado-based attorney Harvey Steinberg for the legal proceedings.

"Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold, who is facing multiple felony charges stemming from a Florida robbery earlier this year, has retained high-profile attorney Harvey Steinberg to represent him against eight felony charges," Maakaron wrote on June 28.

Per Maakaron's report, Arnold has hired Steinberg for his experience in representing multiple high-profile cases involving NFL stars. The attorney has represented Jerry Jeudy, John Elway, Brandon Marshall, and Kellen Winslow II, among others.

A graduate from the University of Colorado School of Law, Steinberg worked at the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office for six years before shifting to a private practice.

Steinberg's first high-profile case involved former Denver Broncos tight end Clarence Kay in 1990. Most recently, he represented Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper during a courtroom appearance, per The Athletic.

Arnold surrendered to authorities last week and has been in custody since. Meanwhile, the Lions have continued their support for their star. The outcome of Monday’s hearing is going to be vital for both parties.

The cornerback is currently preparing for another court appearance on Monday, which will determine whether he will remain in custody awaiting trial.

The former first-round pick has maintained his innocence ever since he was first connected to the incident that happened in February. However, if he is convicted, he may receive a life sentence.

But what exactly is the case against Arnold?

Why is Terrion Arnold facing a life sentence?

On Wednesday, tampa.gov reported that Arnold has been arrested on multiple felony charges, which could carry a life sentence. Soon after, the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office confirmed those reports with a post on social media.

“The State Attorney’s Office will file charges against Detroit Lions player Terrion Arnold following the arrest in connection with a February robbery and kidnapping plot in Tampa,” the post read. “Arnold is facing multiple felony charges which carry a potential sentence up to life in p*****.”

Tampa police revealed that Arnold surrendered voluntarily and had been taken into custody at Orient Road in Hillsborough County.

“He [Arnold] is facing four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery,” stated Tampa police.

Six individuals were arrested previously with relation to this case. According to the Detroit Free Press, three of those individuals have pleaded guilty and plan to testify for the state. Meanwhile, Arnold’s representation reiterated Arnold's innocence.

“Terrion Arnold categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence,” wrote Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management.
