One of the biggest stories this July is the wedding of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to international superstar Taylor Swift. Now, an old teammate and former Lions quarterback has found a humorous way to remind fans of his contribution to Kelce's NFL career.

With many stars receiving an invitation to the wedding, former quarterback Chase Daniel couldn’t help but joke about his lack of an invite despite his significance in Kelce’s NFL career.

“Can’t believe my invite to Taylor & Travis’ wedding never came,” wrote Daniel on his personal X account. “Feels like throwing Travis Kelce his first NFL TD should’ve at least earned me a seat at the kids’ table 😂”

The joke references when Kelce caught his first career touchdown from Daniel during a 2014 game. They were teammates for three seasons, from 2013 to 2015.

While Daniel served as the Chiefs' backup and remained a career second-stringer until his 2022 retirement, Kelce has become one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history.

Daniel has spent one season in Detroit, backing up Matthew Stafford in 2020 where he appeared in four games.

Kelce, meanwhile, has had a stellar career and is arguably one of the best receiving tight ends in NFL history. He has accumulated 13,002 receiving yards, an active leader in receptions with 1080 in 192 games. He has also recorded 82 touchdowns and is an 11-time Pro Bowler, four-time All Pro and three-time Super Bowl champion.

However, while Daniel was not able to get an invite to the wedding, another former Lions star was invited.

Former Lions star is spotted at Kelce and Swift’s star-studded Wedding

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding has been one of the most talked about events this year due to their star-studded guest list.

The couple booked Madison Square Garden for a 100-person event on July 2 and a second celebration for over 1,000 guests on July 3. With many NFL stars reportedly on the guest list, a prominent Lions standout was among those in attendance.

According to People, the 2025 MVP and current Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was spotted alongside his wife Kelly Stafford in New York at the site of the wedding.

A ton of NFL athletes were invited to the wedding, such as the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers amongst others.

While Stafford and Kelce have never played together, the two veterans have frequently crossed paths. Most recently, in May, Stafford was also present for Kelce’s bachelor party, where they were spotted playing golf together at Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas. 

Travis Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, has also played with Kelly Stafford’s brother Chad Hall during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“We actually go far back,” Kelly Stafford said during an episode of the Sunday Sports Club podcast in August 2025. “My brother (Chad Hall) played with Jason in the Eagles, and so we got to know them a little bit.”
