Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow had quite an interesting year in 2025. He announced his retirement last June before attempting a comeback later that year. But now he has decided to call it quits again, this time permanently.

Ragnow addressed the media at the fourth annual Skeet Shoot Showdown fundraiser in Michigan, which he hosted on June 12.

"I did not plan on retiring in the middle of summer, believe it or not. It was like–I was trying to get like, ‘You can do it for the guys, for the fans. It’s who you are.’ But it’s just like I was uncomfortable," confided Ragnow.

Ragnow had been suffering from multiple injuries, including toe and knee issues. So, despite going for one last 'Hail Mary' in late 2025, the 30-year-old center was forced to accept his departure after seven NFL seasons.

"And it’s one of those things where you have a couple of kids – and I don’t want a sob story. I’m okay. I’m going to be completely fine, but it’s one of those things – I don’t know – is the juice worth the squeeze thing?" Ragnow added.

Ragnow admitted that the retirement call wasn't easy. He constantly felt "guilty" as he felt he had abandoned his team. More than anything else, his commitment to his team fueled his desire to return.

Yet as luck would have it, just before he returned to Detroit for his onboarding physical, he suffered a Grade 3 hamstring tear. So Ragnow decided to listen to what his body was telling him.

Ragnow played 96 games in his career. He was considered one of the top offensive linemen in the league, boasting four Pro-Bowl selections and a Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award nomination.

So what does the former center's future look like away from the game he loves?

Frank Ragnow's Life After Retirement

Frank Ragnow might not be playing for the Lions on the field, but that won't stop him from cheering them on from the sidelines.

"Ideally, I’d love to get back and support, and I’ll always be watching," Ragnow told reporters.

But for now, he is focusing on spending some quality time with his wife, Lucy, and their two young children. He will spend his days dividing his time between fishing, on his farm, or investing in his foundation, which he founded in 2022.

“Selfishly, it just gives me something to work on and just to be able to—I still feel like I have a platform and a responsibility, if you will, to make an impact, and I’d like to foresee that,” Ragnow said.

The Rags Remembered Foundation was named after his late father, John "Rags" Ragnow, who passed away unexpectedly in 2016. The organization helps children who go through similar experiences in life.

Its main focus is to stress on outdoor activities to help cope with profound grief. The events take place in Michigan, which he calls his forever home.

Despite not having a picture-perfect retirement, he is happy with the love and adulation he received.

"I care about those people. It's been incredible the amount of gratitude. I had a couple of people shake my hand in the airport, and they said, 'Hey, I wanted to say thank you for laying it on the line for me," concludes Ragnow.
