The Detroit Lions head into the 2026 league meetings with more attention than ever after a 9-8 season. With the buzz picking of a rift between Lions head coach Dan Campbell and executive vice president Brad Holmes, what can we expect from the meeting in Phoenix?

As reported by 97.1 The Ticket, recently Campbell and Holmes had a disagreement over the building of the Lions roster. For the Detroit head coach, higher competition is the way to improve the performance of the team. Campbell believes that the Lions are on the verge of something big. But for Holmes, financial constraints led him to tighten his fist.

"Brad and myself do everything together. And despite what’s been out there, that’s a bunch of, listen, we’re golden, man," said Campbell during a luncheon at Crain’s, denying any rift taking place in Allen Park. "We are as good as we’ve ever been, we want to win, and we’re going to get it right."

With the Lions’ owner, Rod Wood, retiring before the 2026 season kicks off, this would be his last league meeting. There has been talk about the Lions unveiling new Rivalry uniforms this season.

"I know what it looks like, and I think fans are going to like it," Wood kept the fans intrigued without revealing how much it will differ from the present Honolulu Blue and silver color scheme. "It’s pretty cool."

Other than the attire, the league meetings might also shed light on a couple of rule changes. Instead of depending on referees on the field, the league also wants off-field officials to have a say in the players being thrown out. In the current system, referees often make rushed decisions.

Last season, Detroit paid the price, losing 29-24 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In that game, a potential game-changing touchdown was erased by an offensive pass interference call on Amon St. Brown.

What else to expect from the NFL League meetings about the Taylor Decker situation?

According to Decker's interview with Detroit Football Network's Justin Rogers in March, the offensive tackle initially decided to retire. But the plans changed, and he communicated to the Lions' head coach about his interest in returning. However, he is yet to hear from Holmes.

So, in the league meetings, fans might get to know Detroit's part of the story. In the meantime, Decker made it clear that he would not accept a pay cut if he unretired. But there were hints from the team that on return, he might have to go through a significant pay cut.

“You’re not our guy anymore,” Decker said what the situation felt like after being the franchise’s left tackle for 10 years.

Being known as a players' coach, Detroit fans might be looking up to Campbell to see whether he brings up why there has been a breach of communication.
