ESPN Analyst Names David Montgomery Replacement Hours After the Lions Trade

The Detroit Lions left the entire NFL world shocked when they traded David Montgomery to the Houston Texans. Now, Jadarian Price is one name suggested by ESPN’s Jordan Reid.
Montgomery was one of the best running backs to ever play for the Lions. Despite being a backup, he went toe-to-toe with Jahmyr Gibbs, scoring 8 touchdowns against Gibbs' 13. And that's why, Reid had one specific name in mind.
“After trading David Montgomery to Houston, the Lions need a bigger back to team up with Jahmyr Gibbs. Price is a strong runner who complemented Jeremiyah Love at Notre Dame and can do the same with Gibbs.”
Price has played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Over his final two seasons (2024–2025), Price became a key part of Notre Dame’s offense.
He recorded 1,420 rushing yards with a 6.1 yards on average. Jadarian Price also scored 18 rushing touchdowns. The running back is one of only four players in the nation with two kickoff return touchdowns in 2025.
Price also earned Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week for his 4-touchdown game vs. Purdue. He was Notre Dame’s primary kickoff returner. Price has returned 12 kickoffs for 450 yards (37.5 average). But he is not the only one who can replace Montgomery.
Lions Can Also Replace David Montgomery with a Super Bowl MVP
In the Super Bowl, Kenneth Walker recorded 135 rushing yards on 27 carries and 26 receiving yards on two catches (161 total yards). He won the Super Bowl MVP.
But the Seahawks chose not to use the franchise tag on Kenneth Walker III before the league deadline. That means they didn’t commit a one-year guarantee to him, and he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent.
The Detroit Lions have the chance to bring in the perfect replacement for David Montgomery. Walker also served in a similar role with Zach Charbonnet. It could be the perfect shift.
