Isiah Pacheco arrives as David Montgomery's replacement, but questions remain about his ability to match Montgomery's production. But according to NFL Nation, Detroit's front office has made a smart move.

"The signing of unrestricted free agent running back Isiah Pacheco. Pacheco is viewed as a replacement for Montgomery, who was traded to Houston, and he's confident that his violent running style will complement Jahmyr Gibbs' speed in the backfield," said NFL Nation on ESPN.

Pacheco is a more physical running back, and while his numbers fell to below 500 rushing yards and one touchdown each in 2024 and 2025, his style matches Montgomery's. Just as the latter was lethal in the endzone, Pacheco did so back in 2022 and 2023. With a more run-heavy offense, we could see Pacheco increase his output.

"He is hopeful that the move to Detroit will also spark a new beginning for a career that has gotten off track. Last season, he finished with a disappointing 462 rushing yards and two total touchdowns in 13 games, but he appears to be motivated by the new situation," the report added.

Pacheco has signed a one-year deal for $1.81 million. Injuries like a fractured fibula in 2024 have held his productivity. However, there are positives out of the Detroit move.

The Lions are rebuilding their offensive line, which could create favorable conditions for both Gibbs and Pacheco in the backfield. As a two-time Super Bowl champion, Pacheco brings postseason experience to the Lions, still chasing its first NFL title.

During his introductory media appearance, the Kansas City Chiefs' running back showed excitement about joining head coach Dan Campbell's football culture.

Pacheco Is Ready To Make an Impact

After revealing his first conversation with Dan Campbell, Pacheco got down to business.

"Knowing the mentality and the aggression I bring … the staff here and the Ford family believed in me and gave me the opportunity to give 110 percent here and I'm going to show you all that the real (No.) 10 is back."

He was referring to the subpar output in the last two seasons (below 500 rushing yards) after managing five touchdowns in his rookie year and then seven in his second year. The move to Detroit might just reignite the spark.

"Whatever I can do to contribute to the team is going to happen. I'm going to bring excitement to the team and leadership and accountability. I'm a two-time champ, but I'm not satisfied, though. I'm hungrier than I ever was and I'm ready to get to work."
