Since being traded to the Detroit Lions, Jared Goff has experienced almost every high and low imaginable. The most prominent low in his Lions career might be the 2025 season, which he has now called one of the most important of his Lions tenure.

Entering his sixth season with the Lions, Goff is excited and believes that the team is ready to rediscover the identity that had fueled one of the most successful eras in Detroit Lions history.

“Excited, man, really excited,” said Goff. “Another challenge in front of us, and we get to find out who we’re gonna be in the next handful of weeks.”

Goff, who was interviewed by Brad Galli of the Brad Galli Show during Goff’s FATE Draft Day celebrations, also admitted to knowing what the Lions’ plans for next season are and also opened up about whether the Lions would still maintain the “grit” mentality they have had under head coach Dan Campbell.

“I have a pretty good idea of what that’s gonna be, but it’s fun to go through that and face all those challenges,” said Goff. “I think that’ll be a part of it, but I can understand why there will be an emphasis on it.”

While the Lions had a disappointing season by finishing last in the NFC North with a record of 9-8 and missing the playoffs after 3 consecutive years of going to the playoffs, the same cannot be said for Goff.

He had his third consecutive season with over 4,500 passing yards and 30 or more touchdowns, the fifth overall in his career.

Meanwhile, Goff also opened up about how embarrassing last season was and how the Lions plan on using last season as motivation for next season.

Goff admits to Lions being “embarrassed” by last season

During the same interview with Brad Galli, Goff also opened up about the frustration from last season’s finish and how he wants to channel it towards next season.

“I think whenever you finish fourth place in your division and get embarrassed in a lot of ways in some pretty big games, it’s not hard to find that motivation and that grit,” said Goff.

Goff also explained how he and the Lions wouldn’t find it much harder to improve on last season, considering how they did before last season.

There is merit to Goff’s statement considering how the Lions were the first seed in 2024 and went to the Conference Championship Game in 2023. With a new offensive coordinator in Drew Petzing as well, the Lions will be hoping for better playcalling to help replicate the success from those seasons. 

Additionally, with the Lions addressing major roster issues during the offseason and the return of some stars such as Sam LaPorta from injuries, expectations will be for the Lions to make a deep run in the playoffs and contend for the Super Bowl.
