Drew Petzing Drops “Best Case Scenario” for Lions’ $6.6M Wide Receiver

Detroit Lions wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa makes a catch for a touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025.

After John Morton's departure in 2025, Drew Petzing is now tasked with helping the Detroit Lions with their offensive play. The offensive coordinator is looking to sharpen the youngsters on the roster, and one of those players is Isaac TeSlaa.

Since getting drafted in 2025, TeSlaa has impressed. He was signed for 4 years with a $6.6 million contract in the third round. Since then, he has notched up 16 receptions for 239 yards and an impressive six touchdowns. Naturally, Petzing was not short of words in praising him.

"I think the best-case scenario, and you talked about those highlight plays are going to show up," said the OC. I think the consistency that he pushes for every day of just getting in and out of his brakes, of using his body and his size to his advantage. Because it's certainly one of the things that separates him from a number of players in this league."

Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing watches his players warm up before playing against the Seattle Seahawks at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Dec. 8, 2024.

TeSlaa's physicality puts him in a different category. His 6’4”, 214 lbs frame is hard to compete against.

Then there was also the gradual improvement that he showed last year, jumping from four catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns in his first 12 weeks to 12 receptions for 174 yards and four touchdowns during weeks 13 through 18.

Moreover, with players like Amon Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams in the squad, you have to be at your best. Not stopping there, Petzing also talked about Detroit's offense ahead of the 2026 season.

Drew Petzing Likes What He Sees In The Detroit Roster

As the Lions are busy with their OTAs, Drew Petzing is getting an opportunity to see the whole offense up close.

"It's been great," said Petzing to the media. "It's been fun out there now, even in pajamas. I think guys are working hard, trying to come together as a unit, trying to improve as individuals. There's a lot of talent out there, a lot of guys are playing at a really high level. So, it's been a lot of fun."

The Detroit Lions' offense is undoubtedly one of the best this season. Bleacher Report ranked the Lions' offense No. 2 overall. Similarly, ESPN's Mike Clay projects Detroit to be a top-four scoring unit (452 projected points) in 2026.

It is a squad packed with talent. They have explosive players like Jared Goff, explosive playmakers like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta, and Jahmyr Gibbs. Add to that All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell, and you have a lethal combination up front.

Petzing has a lot of tools in his shed to work with, and form a balanced attack.

"I think the goal is always going to be to get better at everything we do," the OC concluded. "That's me as a coach, that's individuals as players, that's us as units. I think that's got to be the focus."

The Lions are ready to charge, and from the looks of it, this attacking lineup is bound to produce good results. The former Arizona Cardinals man is looking forward to this new challenge.
