But the NFL franchise has also taken a step to better that.

They have traded one of their greatest running backs, David Montgomery, to the Texans. What did they get in return? The Lions got a 2026 fourth-round draft pick, a 2027 seventh-round draft pick, and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs. How would the OL look now?

LT- Taylor Decker

In 2024, Taylor Decker signed a 3-year, $60,000,000 contract with the Detroit Lions, including a $15,740,000 signing bonus, and an average annual salary of $20,000,000. The biggest concern was that will retire before the 2026 season.

But the Lions star has announced his comeback for his 11th NFL season. In the 2025 season, he had 894 offensive snaps, including 551 pass-blocking snaps and 343 run-blocking snaps. In that, he allowed 2 sacks, 3 quarterback hits, and 33 total pressures, while committing 5 penalties.

LG - Christian Mahogany

Mahogany signed a 4-year, $4,158,388 rookie contract with the Detroit Lions in 2024. It includes a $138,388 signing bonus and $138,388 in guaranteed money, and an average annual salary of $1,039,597. He will be the Lions' player in 2026, but what about his performance?

During the 2025 regular season, he appeared in 699 offensive snaps, with 407 in pass protection and 292 in run blocking while playing exclusively at left guard. Over those snaps, he gave up 6 sacks, 5 quarterback hits, and 27 total pressures, and was flagged for 2 penalties.

C - Tate Ratledge

Ratledge's contract is worth $7.648 million total and includes a $2.21 million signing bonus, which he signed in 2025. Last year, he played 1,088 offensive snaps, including 648 pass-blocking snaps and 440 run-blocking snaps, primarily at right guard (1,087 snaps).

In those snaps, he allowed 2 sacks, 9 quarterback hits, and 24 total pressures, while committing 7 penalties. The rookie can be a long-term investment for the Lions in protecting Jared Goff for many seasons.

RG - Juice Scruggs

The Detroit Lions have Scruggs from the Texans, one of the best defenses in the 2025 NFL season. That is only good news for Jared Goff from the David Montgomery trade. He signed a 4-year, $6,099,103 contract with the Houston Texans in 2026.

He logged 351 offensive snaps, including 218 pass-blocking snaps and 133 run-blocking snaps in the 2025 season. During these, he allowed 0 sacks, 2 quarterback hits, and 11 total pressures, while committing 3 penalties.

RT - Penei Sewell

In 2024, Sewell signed a 4-year, $112,000,000 contract extension with the Detroit Lions. He is one of the most experienced players on the team. The Lions star recorded 998 offensive snaps in the 2025 regular season.

This included 601 pass-blocking snaps and 397 run-blocking snaps. He allowed 2 sacks, 6 quarterback hits, and 19 total pressures, while being called for 2 penalties in those snaps.
