A homecoming moment turned emotional after the Lions' GM, Brad Holmes, made his latest roster move by signing Larry Borom from the Miami Dolphins.

While talking to the free press, Larry Borom shared what the first conversation with his mother was like after signing the homecoming contract with the Detroit Lions.

"As soon as I got off the phone with my agent I called her and she was breaking down," Borom said. "She’s my rock, she’s everything. Her, and my wife’s over there. I don’t want to get emotional up here, but yeah, she means the world," he added. 

This contract means so much more to Borom than people think.

He was born on 30 March 1999 in Detroit, MI. Larry spent his childhood in Oak Park, Michigan, and completed his formal education at Birmingham Brother Rice (Bloomfield Township, MI).

Larry started his football career with the NCAA Birmingham Brother Rice. Later in 2021, he got drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 5th round (151st overall pick). He played four seasons with the Bears and finally joined the Miami Dolphins for a one-year contract. 

During his NFL career, he played 63 games and started 38 games. In his last season with the Dolphins, he played as right tackle and sometimes guard. He recorded 664 snaps, 15 pressures in 404 pass-blocking snaps, 5 penalties, and allowed only 2 sacks.

After spending five seasons in different teams, Borom will finally play for his home team. Sure, his mother was happy about it, but what did he say?

Continuing with his interaction with the free press, Larry Borom showed his eagerness to play under the Lions banner. He was asked about his preferred position in the Lions lineup. 

"You would have to talk to the head man," he said. Previously, Larry has played as left tackle, right tackle, and guard. He is open to all the positions as required by HC, Dan Campbell. 

With the Lions' recent contracts with center Cade Mays, guard Juice, and returning starting guards Tate Ratledge and Christian Mahogany, he showed his flexibility on the roster. 

"I’ve played four different positions over my career so in any way I can help a team and just help us move forward, I’m willing to do whatever," he said.

“Surreal,” Larry Borom said on his contract with the Lions. During his childhood, he used to root for the Detroit Lions. "I feel like a lot of players, no matter who you play for, you always have like a, 'Um, I’m going to go check and see how my team is doing,'" Borom said.

On 12 March 2026, he said he was excited to wear the Lions jersey and play for the city that means the world to him and his family.
