Detroit Lions Schedule Meet with Day 3 Draft Prospect

The Lions may have found their next diamond in the rough. With the NFL Draft approaching, Detroit has scheduled a top-30 visit with Texas Tech wide receiver Reggie Virgil, a projected day three pick who has the front office's attention.
And they've set up a meeting with the star. "Source: Texas Tech WR Reggie Virgil is scheduled to meet with the #Saints, #Cowboys, and #Lions before his Pro Day next week."
The Lions have done some research on the player, and the franchise is set to use one of their top-30 visits to host him at their training facility. The Florida native, Virgil, spent four seasons in college between Miami (Ohio) and Texas Tech. The 2024 and 2025 seasons particularly stand out for the wide receiver.
In the 2024 season with Miami (Ohio), Virgil had 41 receptions for 816 yards and nine touchdowns to his name.
In the 2025 season, Virgil was targeted 57 times and put up 705 yards with six touchdowns. In his four seasons, the wide receiver has had 100 total receptions and 1,583 yards with a total of 16 touchdowns.
Analysts project Virgil will be selected on day 3 in rounds 4-6 of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Lions are not the only ones who will host the wide receiver; the New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys have shown interest in Virgil as well.
Virgil received a prospect grade of 5.99, which translates to an average backup or a special-teamer, as per the NFL Draft and Combine prospect profile. But is there more to something that meets the eye?
Could Virgil be another Amon-Ra St. Brown type player?
Even if the Lions draft Reggie Virgil, Amon-Ra St. Brown will be the unanimous starting wide receiver on the Detroit Lions.
Scouting and picking up players on day three of the draft is something Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes do. And this is where things get interesting. On day 3 in round four, the Lions drafted Amon-Ra St. Brown with the 112th overall pick.
In the 2025 season, Brown had an impressive showing of 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns. From being drafted in the fourth round to being named First-Team All-Pro in 2023 and 2024. Brown has also made the Pro Bowl team four times.
Not bad for someone who went in day three in round four of the 2021 NFL Draft. There is no evidence that Reggie Virgil will ever reach these heights, but Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes know what they are doing.
