The Detroit Lions could emerge as a surprise landing spot for former Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback following his release from the Baltimore Ravens. He was waived ahead of training camp after Baltimore signed veteran center Ethan Pocic.

According to USA TODAY Sports' Nick Brinkerhoff, the Detroit Lions could be one of the better fits for Diego Pavia if they decide to add another quarterback before the regular season.

"Teddy Bridgewater and Luke Altmyer are the only insurance behind Jared Goff on the Lions' roster," Brinkerhoff wrote. "This is a perfect spot for Pavia, given how well he fits the city and the football team's mentality that represents it."

As per the report by USA Today, Brinkerhoff pointed to Detroit's quarterback depth as one reason the Lions could consider bringing in Pavia.

Jared Goff has been remarkably durable in recent seasons, but Bridgewater is entering his second stint with the franchise at 33 years old, while undrafted rookie Luke Altmyer is still developing.

That leaves room for another quarterback to compete during training camp.

Pavia also offers a different skill set than the other quarterbacks currently on Detroit's roster.

Pavia threw for 3,539 yards and scored 29 touchdowns last season and added 862 rushing yards with 10 scores. His mobility could make him a fit if Detroit looks to add another quarterback.

Baltimore signed him as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 NFL Draft. At just under 5-foot-10, he entered the league as one of its shortest quarterback prospects.

While his Ravens stint ended quickly, the Lions have now surfaced as one of the teams linked. At the same time, he is now free to look for another opportunity elsewhere in the league.

PFN sees multiple paths for Pavia after Ravens release

Pro Football Network's Tanner Cappellini believes that Diego Pavia still has a chance to continue his NFL career despite going undrafted and being released by Baltimore.

The outlet identified the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs as additional teams worth watching for their coaching staffs and quarterback development.

PFN noted that Kevin O'Connell has built a reputation for developing quarterbacks in Minnesota. On the other hand, Andy Reid has a long history of taking chances on talented passers.

Rather than projecting Pavia as a future starter, the report described him as a developmental backup. His mobility and toughness could make him valuable in the right system.

Although his release from the Ravens was an early setback, Pavia is expected to continue looking for another opportunity as teams evaluate their quarterback depth during training camp.
