The new NFL season is almost upon us and with it comes the announcement of every team's 53-man roster. The Detroit Lions recently announced theirs, and the list of absentees is long.
Among them is eight-year NFL veteran, Tyler Conklin. The TE is one of several players cut from Dan Campbell's initial roster, having only joined the team in preseason.
The decision leaves the Lions with a somewhat inexperienced TE room. While Sam LaPorta can certainly lead the charge having a veteran like Conklin would've have been a good addition.
The Lions had a disappointing 2025 season and will be looking to bounce back this season. It will be interesting to see if Campbell and the front office have done enough over the summer.
Detroit Lions face major injury concern
The Lions' decision to cut Conklin is somewhat concerning. But, what is even more of a concern, is the running back position.
Over the summer, the Lions lost David Montgomery and replaced him with former Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco. However, scarcely a few months into his Lions career, and Pacheco has already picked up an injury.
Dan Campbell recently confirmed that the 27-year-old has a back issue and is unlikely to feature in Week 1. Hopefully, this does not turn into a long-term issue, as Pacheco's performances alongside Jahmyr Gibbs is a key aspect of the Lions' offense.
At the end of the day, only time will tell if the Lions will have to look elsewhere for support, or if Pacheco will return ready to go.
