The Detroit Lions have now been linked with a blockbuster move involving the Browns' star cornerback Denzel Ward. The five-time Pro Bowler has turned into a trade target as Detroit looks forward to making its secondary strong before training camp.

"Detroit still has a talented roster, and the franchise recognizes that it must capitalize on this window," wrote Jaleel Grandberry of Dawg Pound Daily. "That's why the Lions could be motivated to add Denzel Ward to their cornerback room before training camp, and why they could end up offering a package that makes Cleveland consider the move."

As per Jaleel Grandberry of Dawg Pound Daily, the reasoning behind the suggestion is quite easy to understand. Detroit has presented one of the league's deepest rosters.

Adding a cornerback like Ward could elevate the defense, especially when the Lions believe they can make it to a Super Bowl this season. Ward has a very impressive history since he entered the league as the fourth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

He has earned five Pro Bowl selections while becoming one of the NFL's elite cover corners. Over his eight-year career, he's only had two playoff appearances, with the last one coming in 2023.

The Browns would likely demand draft compensation, but a bigger issue is that Ward has made it clear that he wishes to stay in Cleveland. After the Myles Garrett trade, it will be interesting to see if the player is tradeable for the right price.

As the doubts continue on Detroit's interest in Ward, another NFL reporter believes the Browns star should go down the same path as Myles Garrett.

As the trade rumors continue around Denzel Ward, recent analysis has shifted the conversation towards the cornerback's long-term future.

Despite his elite production spanning 361 total tackles, 18 interceptions, and 104 passes deflected in 110 games, he only has two playoff losses to show for his quality.

"If Ward wants a realistic shot at winning a Super Bowl, as Garrett now has with the Rams, he should learn from his former teammate’s experience," wrote Jobe Morrison of The Big Lead.

Myles Garrett went to Los Angeles, with the Rams aggressively pushing for a Super Bowl run. LA gave up Jared Verse, along with multiple future draft picks, to land the two-time Defensive Player of the Year after Garrett waived his no-trade clause.

"Ward should decline any extension offers and either wait for the Browns to trade him to a contender or reach free agency in 2028 and choose one himself," Morrison further wrote.

Instead of signing or committing to another extension with the Browns, Morrison believes he should prioritize joining a legit Super Bowl contender.

He argued that Ward should take inspiration from former teammate Myles Garrett, who joined the Los Angeles Rams.
