"Detroit Fits Who I am": Lions' WR Makes Intentions Clear After Leaving Cardinals

The Detroit Lions signed a new wide receiver from the Arizona Cardinals.
In the legal tampering period, the Lions have landed a deal with wide receiver Greg Dortch from the Arizona Cardinals.
While talking to the press, Greg said, “Detroit fits who I am as a man. The grit, the toughness, um, the getting it out of the mud, the just that's me.”
Greg Dortch started his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers in 2019. Continuing his journey, he joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2021.
One of the shortest athletes at 5 ft 7 in height in the NFL, Greg has played for six seasons. In 68 games, he made 145 receptions while covering 1310 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns.
Greg Dortch is signed as the replacement of Kalif Raymond, who the Lions lost to the Chicago Bears. GM Brad Holmes considers this to be the natural replacement because both Greg and Kalif share the same strengths.
Kalif Raymond brought vertical speed, motion versatility, and special teams value, often stretching defenses horizontally and vertically. Dortch offers a similar quickness profile but leans more into short-area efficiency and yards after catch, making him more of a chain-mover than a pure field-stretcher.
But one point where he outcasts Kalif is his familiarity with the new Lions offensive coordinator, Drew Petzing. Greg has played under Petzing during his time with the Cardinals.
What Greg Dortch Brings to the Detroit Lions Offense
Like Kalif Raymond, Greg Dortch’s versatility adds quick separation and reliable short-area production to Detroit’s passing game. His ability to generate yards after catch fits a system built on timing and efficiency.
“Once I get the ball… I’m trying to go the distance,” he said, emphasizing his YAC focus.
He also brings system familiarity and role flexibility. Having worked with Drew Petzing, Dortch understands route concepts and spacing, allowing faster integration.
“He trusts me,” Dortch said. His toughness over the middle and willingness to play through contact make him a dependable option for Jared Goff in high-traffic situations. For the same big reason, Greg joined the Detroit Lions.
