The Detroit Lions enter the 2026 season with expectations firmly back at a high level. Dan Campbell's team is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 campaign, and with much of its core still intact, there is genuine belief that Detroit can make another Super Bowl push.

Now, just before the season opener, the Lions have made a major financial move. Detroit has restructured the contracts of Penei Sewell and Amon-Ra St. Brown, creating approximately $35.7 million in salary-cap space.

The move gives the Lions significant flexibility heading into the season. Detroit could use that money to make additions during the campaign, address future roster needs, or work on extensions for key players such as Sam LaPorta and Brian Branch.

Of course, restructuring contracts pushes some financial commitments into future years. Still, with the Lions clearly trying to build a championship roster, the additional flexibility could prove extremely valuable.

The Lions Are Eager to Win a Super Bowl This Season

The desire to win it all is shared throughout the Lions locker room. Amon-Ra St. Brown recently made his ambitions crystal clear, saying that he and Jared Goff simply “gotta win the Super Bowl.” He also explained that winning would silence many of Goff's doubters.

Aidan Hutchinson has expressed a similar hunger. During a golf outing with Goff, Hutchinson reflected on the Lions' previous disappointments and essentially declared that it is “f****** time” for them to win a Super Bowl.

Those ambitions now have to translate onto the field. With Detroit creating additional financial flexibility while retaining its core, the Lions appear determined to give themselves every possible opportunity to finally finish the job.
