A notable crossover happened at the NFL's annual meeting. Lions coach Dan Campbell connected with Tigers manager AJ Hinch. Their conversation in Phoenix revealed a shared leadership philosophy for Detroit sports.

Having coffee together at the Biltmore Hotel, Phoenix, they shared their common bond over their love for sports.

“It was really cool that we happened to be in the same hotel as the NFL meetings,” Hinch said. “We got together and were able to catch up on a lot of things. I have so much respect for how he coaches, how he leads.”

It was not the first time these two sports personalities had shown their love for the sports. Previously, Campbell had been to several MLB Tigers games. And the same goes for Hinch at Ford Field.  But it was the first time they were meeting. 

“We have a common bond,” Hinch said. “Just the love of Detroit and our sports teams’ emergence has come at the same time, which has been really cool.”

Previously, they both had played for Detroit in their respective sports and had brought fame to the state of Detroit. 

“We talked about the different cadences of the season,” Hinch said. “Handling the players is very similar. We’re both trying to get the most out of young players and trying to put them in positions to be successful. The range of emotions in the competition are similar.”

At the end, they wished each other success and agreed to stay in touch.

Their meeting in Phoenix highlighted their similar leadership approaches.

Both coaches have built their teams around accountability, preparation, and a clear identity by playing for Detroit in their respective sports. Whether it’s the Detroit Lions or the Detroit Tigers, the message is consistent: know your role, execute it, and compete every day.
