Dan Campbell is entering what could be the defining season of his Lions tenure. As Detroit looks to recover from last year's disappointing campaign, the pressure is mounting, and one NFL analyst predicts Campbell won't make it beyond 2026.

“As I look at this roster and this team hemorrhaging players, it's not the same as it was three years ago. The demise of the Lions has started, big time. And I expect Dan Campbell to be the casualty after this season,” said co-host Rob Parker on The Old Couple podcast.

Campbell has earned plenty of trust during his six years in Detroit. He ended the team's 30-year division title drought and delivered back-to-back NFC North crowns. But despite the success, a few missed opportunities have left his legacy under scrutiny.

“I am now convinced that anybody listening to my voice in Detroit or the suburbs—this is the beginning of the end of Dan Campbell. A bad season here, and I expect the Lions to make a change because this will be two bad years... Not making the playoffs,” said Rob Parker on his YouTube @The Odd Couple.

Parker compared the Lions to the rest of the NFC North in terms of major offseason signings, and the gap was hard to ignore.

He said that the Bears retained their quarterback, along with both their offensive and defensive coordinators. While their defense remains a concern, they could still fix those issues.

Meanwhile, the Packers hired Jonathan Gannon as defensive coordinator and are banking on rusher Micah Parsons returning mid-season to revive the defense. The Vikings, on the other hand, did a full reset by firing their GM, benching QB J. J. McCarthy, and signing Kyler Murray.

Rob believes that while the other NFC North teams made some significant additions, the Lions had just one major signing: Drew Petzing.

Parker isn't the only analyst questioning Campbell's future, with another prominent NFL voice also suggesting Detroit could face major decisions if the 2026 season goes poorly.

Another NFL Analyst Questions Dan Campbell's Future

The competition in the NFC North is so razor-thin that it leaves little room for error after every team posted a winning record.

After the Lions and Vikings stumbled over the last two seasons, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio believes another disappointing campaign could put head coaches Dan Campbell and Kevin O'Connell on notice.

“I think between Dan Campbell and Kevin O’Connell, if you don’t make the playoffs this year, next year could get weird, potentially, all depends on how badly this year goes," said Mike Florio on Pro Football Talk's YouTube @NFL on NBC. "No one’s immune to getting fired if you have a 2-15, 1-16 debacle.

While Parker predicts Campbell's exit and Florio sees pressure mounting after another disappointing season, Detroit's 2026 campaign will ultimately determine whether those concerns become reality.
