Dan Campbell Sends Clear Message to Lions Locker Room Ahead of Must-Win Week 3 Clash

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell looks on before a play against Green Bay Packers during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025.
The Lions have not started the 2026 season as expected. Detroit survived New Orleans in Week 1 before suffering a 41-31 defeat against Buffalo, leaving the team 1-1 heading into Week 3.
That makes the upcoming clash with the Jets particularly important. New York has also started 1-1, beating Tennessee before losing to Green Bay in overtime.
The Jets have long been mocked around the NFL, but this year's team already looks different. Aaron Glenn has built a defense that has allowed fewer than 200 yards in both games, while Geno Smith leads an offense featuring Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson.
Campbell knows better than to overlook them. The Lions coach understands that Detroit cannot afford another sloppy performance, especially with his team already struggling defensively. His message to the locker room was therefore simple and direct.
“This is going to be a knockout, 60-minute brawl. It's going to go down, and we've got to be on point. We can't beat ourselves, and we've got to make the plays that are there, and everybody's got to do their job.”
Detroit needs exactly that kind of response. The Lions cannot afford to compound their early problems with another loss.
Dan Campbell Knows the Lions Must Fix Their Run Game
Campbell has already acknowledged that Detroit needs to become more efficient running the football. Jahmyr Gibbs has produced 208 rushing yards through two games, but the Lions need consistency from the entire offense.
Ball security will also be crucial against New York. The Jets have forced six fumbles through two games, while Detroit has already fumbled four times.
The Lions have plenty of talent, but Week 3 demands execution. Campbell's message makes that expectation crystal clear: Detroit must handle its business and avoid beating itself.
