Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell spoke with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and his brother Equanimeous St. Brown on the St. Brown Podcast recently.

There, he was asked about his first impression of his wide receiver. Campbell recalled being one of the last members of the franchise to get involved in the 2021 NFL Draft evaluation process because he was still wrapping up the previous season:

"And I remember you were a freaking Pitbull man. You were at the college level like you are here. Like, you get after dudes. You were the most physical receiver coming out that year, and I'm not just talking about blocking. I mean, the blocking was big, but I'm talking about the way you separated the topper routes, the way you broke out, the way that you- man, your play speed."

Campbell viewed St. Brown as a “Pitbull” who played with physicality, speed, and an understanding of the game that showed he was a true football player:

"Your college play speed. The speed doesn't matter; your play speed was fast, and you were a football player, and that was evident."

Brad Holmes was already high on Amon-Ra St. Brown

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes had already been tracking Amon-Ra St. Brown before Dan Campbell began his evaluation.

Campbell said Holmes had been watching the USC receiver for two or three years and was already discussing him internally:

"And so he was already talking about this receiver from USC that he'd been watching for two years-three years, whatever it was. And so, he was already on you before I was."

Campbell then revealed that Holmes and he ultimately shared the same conviction about Amon-Ra St. Brown.
