Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell unexpectedly found himself at the center of a media controversy during training camp after asking about veteran reporter Paula Pasche, who had been denied team credentials.

According to Detroit Sports Nation, Campbell appeared surprised when Pasche's situation came up during his media session. His reaction suggested he was unaware the veteran Lions reporter had been denied credentials.

"Dan Campbell just asked about reporter Paula Pasche --- Well, this is interesting!!! He did not even know. The Lions made the decision NOT to credential her! How do I know, the team told me," wrote Detroit Sports Podcast on their X account.

Paula Pasche has covered the Lions for decades and is one of the most well-known journalists.

As per Detroit Sports Nation's X post, Campbell was caught off guard by the franchise's decision. The Lions' HC reportedly asked about Pasche himself, suggesting that he had no knowledge that she had been denied credentials.

Campbell's apparent lack of awareness raised questions about who within the organization handled the credentialing decision. Now, generally, credential decisions for NFL teams are managed by the franchise's communications or public relations department.

Meanwhile, Campbell is known for his transparency with the players and the media. That is partly why reports suggest he was unaware of the decision.

As of now, there is no indication that Campbell was involved in the decision to deny Pasche's media credentials. The focus is on the franchise's internal handling of media credentials and whether further clarification will be provided.

While questions surrounding the credential decision remain unanswered, Campbell quickly shifted his attention back to football during training camp, outlining how the Lions plan to evaluate their young cornerbacks ahead of the new season.

Campbell revealed that Detroit is not limiting its young cornerbacks to a single role, opting instead to evaluate them across various positions, particularly after the ex-CB Terrion Arnold's exit.

“They will take some outside reps. McCreary has played outside. Avieon did in college, too. I know he just stepped into our building, but they’ll take some of those outside reps. We still want to let them sink their teeth into some of this nickel work," said Dan Campbell via reporter Do Drysdale of Detroit Sports Nation.

The CBs will have open competition between Roger McCreary, Aveion Terrell, and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., with the coaching staff prioritising versatility over fixed roles. D.J. Reed and Rock Ya-Sin will also add more depth to the defense.

At the same time, Campbell stressed that the CBs will continue developing at nickel before any permanent decisions are made.
