Dan Campbell Fails To Win Over Detroit Lions Fans With Latest Statement

DETROIT, MI - DECEMBER 21: Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell exasperated, but gives credit to the Steelers and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin for their win after the game between Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions on December 21, 2025 at Ford Field in Detroit, MI /CSM Detroit United States - ZUMAc04_ 20251221_zma_c04_090 Copyright: xAllanxDranbergx

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell stood at the podium and said a lot of things will never change with the team. But he also made something else very clear. After years of building the same core group, it is time to shake things up.

"When you've been able to hold a group together for a significant amount of time, and you don't get the benefits you want or the results that you want, it's probably time to shake it up a little bit," Campbell said.

Campbell was speaking in the context of a Lions team that finished 9-8 in 2025 and missed the playoffs entirely. That came after a 15-2 season the year before.

The drop-off was hard to ignore, and the offseason moves reflected that. Detroit parted ways with veterans like Taylor Decker and Graham Glasgow and overhauled the offensive line with younger faces.

Campbell made clear the roster changes were not personal.

"The guys that we were not able to re-sign or have gone other places, those guys, we will forever be grateful to those players," he said. "They were a big part of this, and for us to get up on our feet."

As the Lions push to restore their gritty identity under Campbell, the head coach believes evolution was necessary.

"There are a lot of things that will never change here that we're about, but there are going to be things that we evolve," Campbell said. "Offensively, defensively, special teams, there's a lot that we can get better at."

However, not everyone on X bought it. The fans had plenty to say.

Lions Fans React to Campbell's Admission That Changes Were Necessary

When Campbell's comments made the rounds on X, fans quickly rallied in response on the same.

"My confidence in Dan is gone," one fan wrote plainly.

Detroit had been considered one of the best rosters in the league entering 2025. Missing the playoffs after a 15-2 season the year prior left a lasting mark.

"I feel the Lions window has closed and they are about to fizzle out. Rebuild will be coming within the next 2-3 years," another fan said.

Others were more focused on what exactly needs to change rather than writing the team off completely.

"Yeah how bout stop doing full tackle practices that no other team does. Can't wait for a third straight year decimated by injuries that screws the season," one fan added.

The call to change practice has been growing louder among the fanbase for a while now.

"Speaking of evolving….How about starting with the head coach?" added another.

Not everyone was down on Campbell, though. Some fans still had his back.

"The one thing that they should never change is the coach. This dude is the greatest," one supporter wrote.

Campbell still has believers in Detroit. But the 2026 season will need results for the doubters to come back around.
