Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell looks on before a play against Green Bay Packers during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025.
The head coach, Dan Campbell, and the Detroit Lions entered OTAs hoping to create history in the 2026 season, but one unfortunate development quickly cast a shadow over the proceedings.
Dan Campbell revealed that Kendrick Law, a wide receiver, suffered an injury during the offseason activities this week. He tore his knee ligament.
“The kid was doing a good job,” Campbell told reporters, as per Field Level Media. “But … it’s part of it. It’s a harsh reality. He’ll get it out of the way early, have his whole career in front of him.”
Law suffered a torn ACL in a non-contact drill during organized team activities (OTAs). He was receiving positive reviews during the offseason activities.
The fifth-round pick from Kentucky was seen as an option who could contribute as a receiver and return specialist. His 5-11, 203-pound physique and experience made him an intriguing piece within the roster.
Fortunately, the Lions' receiving room featuring Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams is one of the strengths of the roster, where younger players compete for depth roles. Still, losing a rookie like Law before training camp will affect the team.
Detroit has already started exploring solutions, including additional receiver depth such as Kyre Duplesis during OTAs, according to Pride of Detroit.
As the Lions prepare for another playoff run, staying healthy and developing young players is equally important heading into the 2026 season.
Detroit Lions Add UDFA Rookie WR During OTAs
After Law suffered a season-ending ACL injury, the Lions moved quickly to add another receiver, signing undrafted rookie Kyre Duplesis during OTAs.
"On Thursday, the Detroit Lions announced they signed undrafted rookie wide receiver Kyre Duplessis to their active roster," wrote Pride of Detroit.
The trade provides yet another option for development as the organization looks to assess its roster before training camp. The player began his college career at Coastal Carolina but switched to Delaware and had an exceptional 2025 season.
He caught 60 passes for 824 yards with five touchdowns and contributed on special teams. This versatility is one of the major reasons for the call from Detroit after Law's injury.
With established receivers already ahead of him on the depth chart, training camp could be his opportunity to carve out a role and earn a spot on the roster.
