The former Red Raiders star quarterback, Brendan Sorsby, is headed to the NFL supplemental draft. Many NFL pundits believe that the Motor City team might pursue him to increase depth on their QB chart.
As per CBS’s Josh Edwards, the Detroit Lions are interested in drafting Brendan Sorsby as they are moving forward on their 2026 NFL campaign.
"All I can tell you is that we look at everything," Campbell responded, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "[General Manager Brad Holmes] looks at everything, and so nothing is off the docket, so our eyes are open. Doesn’t mean we will make a move or we won’t."
On Wednesday, while addressing the rumors, Campbell did not give a clear answer on the Sorsby situation, but he also did not turn down the idea of pursuing him.
With the initial look, it seems like the Sorsby wouldn’t be of any use for the Lions, as Jared Goff is just 31 years old and is signed until 2028.
Therefore, they don’t need a long-term option on their QB chart. But their backup options around Goff tell a whole different story.
At present, the Lions have 33-year-old Teddy Bridgewater as the QB2, followed by UDFA Luke Altmyer.
Their depth chart suggests they don’t have a strong backup option in case anything goes wrong with Goff.
This mandates Holmes to find a developmental QB who could fill in the shoes of Goff.
Per Zac Wassink of Yardbarker, the Lions' front office is doing its homework on Sorsby and controversy ahead of making any move on him.
His drafting with the Lions is still unclear, as there's no evidence but rather just chatter around his potential deal. But it’s not just Lions who are in the list of potential landing spots.
Other Potential Landing Spots Emerge for Brendan Sorsby
Amid the gambling row, many from the NCAA community believed that the NFL wouldn’t accept Sorsby, but on the contrary, he has more than one potential spot for entering the elite league.
Per Alex Kay of the Bleacher Report, there are multiple landing spots for Brendan Sorsby, who could submit their draft bids to select the young talent.
The list includes the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets.
Each franchise faces varying levels of uncertainty behind its current starter, making Sorsby an intriguing developmental option despite the controversy surrounding his collegiate career.
With the release of Kyler Murray, the Cardinals are looking for a long-term solution for their QB depth chart.
For Browns GM Andrew Berry has said he will consider the option of drafting, but on the other hand, the QB1 turmoil in the Browns roster between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders says otherwise.
Among all the Jets have the poorest QB section, they might be facilitated by the presence of a developmental player, which could deliver results to them.
The door of opportunity is opening for Sorsby as he heads to the NFL supplemental draft.
