The Dan Campbell-led Detroit Lions are now one step closer to their redemption tour as the NFL has officially released their 2026 NFL schedule on May 14, 2026. In the released schedule, the number of standalone games has stood out for the franchise.

As revealed on the Detroit Lions' website, the schedule is a blessing in disguise for Dan Campbell and Co. since the Lions will be getting four primetime/standalone matches.

“Detroit's schedule initially includes four primetime games,” Tim Twentyman wrote on detroitlions.com. “Week 2 at Buffalo (Thursday Night Football)...Ford Field and (vs. New England) in Germany in front of a nationally televised audience.”

The Detroit Lions’ schedule includes four primetime games:

• Week 2 at Buffalo (Thursday Night Football)
• Week 4 at Carolina (Sunday Night Football)
• Week 15 at Minnesota (SNF)
• Week 16 vs. New York Giants (Monday Night Football)

Per the Detroit Lions' schedule, they will be playing four prime-time and two standalone matches in the 2026 NFL season. In the last season, the Lions received five primetime games and two standalone games. 

These NFL schedules are rarely random. They follow a certain set of pointers that result in greater revenue generation, per New Arena.

Four prime-time games will benefit the Lions. The NFL strictly reserves primetime games for legitimate playoff contenders. Following a certain storyline, these matches deliver a bigger viewing experience.

After missing the 2025 NFL playoffs despite a 9-8 winning record, the Lions have made changes in their roster to regain their contender status.

Lions Set for Tough Preseason Slate Ahead of 2026 Campaign

The preseason games hold more importance to the Motor City team this time, as for the first time in years, they won’t be taking part in the mandatory joint practices.

Based on the schedule, the Detroit Lions are set to play against three teams, per the Detroit Lions:

• Week 1 with the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium
• Week 2 with the Washington Commanders at Ford Field
• Week 3 with the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium

For their first match with the Bengals, it is their first exhibition trip to Cincinnati since their last in the 2008 NFL season. 

Among the three matches, this is the only one in which the Lions will be playing at their home ground with fans rooting for them from the stands. 

As of the time of reporting, the exact kickoff times and calendar dates for all fixtures remain unfinalized, but the matches are set to broadcast regionally via the Lions TV Network.
